I thought I would add one more social networking site that is immensely popular right now in the countries of the former USSR. The site is www.odnoklassniki.ru (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odnoklassniki.ru). Odnoklassniki is a transliterated Russian word “classmates”. The major drive of getting out to odnoclassniki is getting back in touch with friends from high school, university, military etc. It is getting so popular Russian companies and foreign firms with high percentage of Russian-speaking employees block access to www.odnoklassniki.ru. Unfortunately www.odnoklassniki.ru is only available in Russian.
One more “popular in the former USSR” system is http://vkontakte.ru/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vkontakte.ru), where vkontakte(Russian) means “in contact”. This one is more of a facebook clone. Again only Russian interface is available.
These two systems basically introduced the term “social networking” to Russians and people from other former soviet republics.
